Welsh Valley Middle School Latin learners recently joined more than 100,000 students from all over the world as they participated in the 2024 National Latin Exam (NLE) sponsored by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.

The Dragons, under the tutelage of Latin teacher Danny Bluth, excelled in this year’s examinations as 59 students were honored for their outstanding performance on the assessment.

The philosophy of the NLE is predicated on providing every Latin student the opportunity to experience a sense of personal accomplishment and success in their study of the Latin language and culture. The NLE is a 40-question, multiple choice test with a time limit of 45 minutes. Questions cover a variety of topics, including grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography, oral Latin, Latin in use in the modern world, historical background and literary devices.
