Welsh Valley Middle School recently celebrated their 3^rd Annual Kindness Week – an initiative launched by Student Council in an effort to create more opportunities for students, staff and families to share kindness with one another!

The initial idea for Kindness Week was born after student-leaders felt inspired by the spirit of volunteerism and sense of community they experienced at the District’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Afternoon of Service. Under the guidance and leadership of Student Council advisors Jenn Swetland and Beth Cooke, the Dragons planned and coordinated an engaging activity for each day of the week with the two simple goals of creating more kindness - something you can never have too much of – and fostering a feeling of inclusion. The activities planned out for each day were as follows:

• Monday: Share a Positive Quote: To kick off Kindness Week, students shared their favorite inspirational quote in a school-wide Google Form, which was a great way to get the positive vibes flowing!
• Tuesday: Post-it Shout Out Day:Students wrote compliments on post-it notes for classmates and teachers that were featured in a special display in the main lobby.
• Wednesday: Creating Valentines Cards for a Sunrise Resident: Students created Valentine's Day Cards for residents at a local senior living facility.
• Thursday: Thank-a-Teacher Thursday: Students used a Google Form to write as many "Thank You" notes as they wanted to faculty and staff members. Student Council representatives then printed out the notes and delivered them to all of the designated educators!
• Friday: Be Yourself Day!; Students wore something promoting their culture, a special cause or a favorite club/activity.

This year’s Kindness Week is just one of many examples of how the Dragons are working to build belonging in their school community. #LMSDBuildingBelonging
