Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Penn Wynne Elementary School! Located in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; our school sits on 9.25 acers in the western suburbs of historic Philadelphia. Our school community includes approximately 750 students and more than 80 professional and support staff.
Penn Wynne Elementary School (PWES) first opened its doors in 1932. In 1951, PWES was expanded and had completed its first addition to the building. On October 20, 2002, the completion of a second and more expansive "Additions and Alterations" project celebrated the modernization and rededication of Penn Wynne Elementary School.
Innovations in literacy, mathematics, social studies, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) instruction afford our students opportunities in research-based best practices for learning. Our teachers utilize and infuse technology in their daily instruction to support curriculum which is reinforced by 1:1 student access to iPads in K and Grade 1 and Chromebooks in Grades 2-5. Music, art, library, physical education, Spanish (for grades one through five), and guidance programs offer children a myriad of varied opportunities for personal growth.
Beyond the opportunities for personal growth through the collective of aforementioned programs; additional services and programs are provided to address individual needs. These needs are addressed through a continuum of services and programs which include special education, gifted, reading, math, and English Language Development supports.
In addition to promoting the academic growth and development of our students, PWES affords students opportunities to grow and develop as contributing members of the school community. Throughout the year, PWES engages in a variety of social and community service activities and programs. One of our most cherished programs is our long-standing history of community service with a special connection to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Additional supports for the students and families of PWES include two school counselors, a registered nurse, a social worker, and an Assistant Principal. In addition, PWES has an active Home and School Association which supports many educational and social events, including an annual Book Fair, author visits, an annual Pancake Breakfast, educational trips as well as a PWES Fun Fair.
We anticipate this year to be another great year of excellence and tradition and we look forward to your joining our school community.
Dr. Brandon Brown.
