Important Information about Kindergarten Transportation for 2019-2020 School Year

Dear LMSD Families,

2019 has just begun, but we know many families in our District are already making plans for the 2019-2020 school year. Kindergarten registration opens next week and it's an especially exciting time for families whose children will be starting Kindergarten. That is why we wanted to make you aware of some changes regarding Kindergarten transportation for next year.

The primary change is that Lower Merion School District will not be providing additional transportation for children who attend kindergarten wraparound programs (that is, programs that provide afternoon care for morning Kindergarten students, or morning care for afternoon Kindergarten students). Kindergarten students who are not walkers will receive one bus ride at the start of their LMSD school day and one bus ride at the end of their school day, just like all other non-walkers. The District will not take students back and forth from wraparound programs to/from their home schools.

If the kindergarten student is attending a wraparound program within the catchment for that student's elementary school, the pickup or drop-off may be made at that program instead of their home bus stop. The program must notify the LMSD transportation department to make these arrangements. Please note, if a family opts for a pickup or drop-off at a wraparound provider, that will be the location every day for the school year. The transportation department cannot accommodate individualized scenarios such as "home bus stop on Mondays and Wednesdays and wraparound provider on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays."

Please take these changes into consideration when making plans to best meet your family's needs for the 2019-2020 school year.

Thank you,

Amy Buckman
