With the news filled with images of the California wildfires, even our youngest learners are keenly aware of the potential danger of fires.
That made firefighter Sean McLaughlin's visit with Merion Elementary's first graders especially meaningful.
McLaughlin is the father of two Merion students, an instructional aide at Cynwyd Elementary, and for nearly five years, he has served as a volunteer with the Narberth Fire Company.
The students paid rapt attention as McLaughlin showed them his gear and spoke with them about fire prevention and safety. They had lots of questions about his job and what he does to help families in emergencies.
McLaughlin's visit is an example of the "Spirit of Community," which is part of the District's Strategic Plan, All Forward. And our students and their families are grateful for the service of firefighters and other emergency responders.
