LMHS joins Alex's Lemonade Stand in fight against childhood cancer

Several weeks ago, Lower Merion High School hosted their annual Winterfest celebration as both a way to unwind before the holidays and, more importantly, to gather together in the spirit of helping others. This year's service efforts were highlighted by a food drive benefiting Saints Memorial Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr and a fundraiser for Alex's Lemonade Stand.

In the end, students and staff ultimately collected 5,500 pounds of food and $1,126. Members of the LMHS community – event organizers Brian Feeney and Tom Kline; Principal Sean Hughes; and student Joey Scott – recently presented a check to LMHS alum (and Joey's older brother) Patrick Scott, who was on hand to accept the donation on behalf of The Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Joey and Patrick are brothers to Alexandra "Alex" Scott. About two decades ago, Alex held her first childhood cancer fundraiser in her front yard and raised $2,000. By the time of her death in 2004, Alex had raised $1,000,000 and inspired a legacy of hope and cures for childhood cancer. The Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is changing the lives of children with cancer by funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.
