Letter from the Superintendent regarding the end-of-year calendar

Dear LMSD Families,

As we made you aware last month, the unusual number of snow days this year has necessitated the use of the additional make-up days that were approved by the Board in our 2017-2018 calendar. That is why we shortened Spring Break, implementing two of those additional make-up days. We also mentioned that we were pursuing additional options, so that we would not have to extend the students' year into the week of June 18, 2018.

I am pleased to let you know that our request to the Pa. Department of Education to turn two student days into teacher in-service days has been approved. Despite our missed days, we will have fulfilled the requirements for students' educational hours for the year and we will not have to extend the student year into the week of June 18.

This will be good news for the many families who contacted the District to say they've made camp or vacation plans that begin the week of June 18. Others let us know they have made plans for the promotion ceremonies on their originally scheduled dates that would be difficult to change.

Below is our final end-of-year calendar. It is the same as original calendar for students.

June 14, 2018

  • Last Day of PM Kindergarten
  • 8th Grade Promotion Ceremonies

Jun 15, 2018

  • Last Day of School for Students
  • Early Dismissal for all Schools
  • Final Day of Exams for High Schools
  • 5th Grade Promotion Ceremonies
  • Elementary Report Cards Issued

We appreciate your patience as we have worked through the challenges presented by this year's weather and hope this information allows you to begin planning a relaxing, educational, fun (and snow-free) summer.

Yours truly,

Robert Copeland
Superintendent
