Lower Merion High School’s Nick Mazzeo has earned Main Line Athlete of the Week honors after an exceptional ending to a sophomore season in which he finished in second place at the PIAA 3A Cross Country State Championships! Nick’s silver medal at states came just a week after winning gold at the District 1 XC Championships in a blistering time of 15:07 at Lehigh University, where he crossed the finish line just six seconds ahead of his fleet-footed twin brother, Alex.
“Nick is an enthusiastic, first-year, competitive runner with strong instincts,” said Lower Merion XC head coach Dallas Alexander. “Together with Alex, they set a standard for LM training sessions. Because of their involvement in other activities, Nick and Alex are fan favorites for younger student-athletes coming up from middle school.”
As mentioned by Coach Alexander, Nick keeps quite busy at Lower Merion, where along with running cross country, he participates in winter and spring track & field, serves a member of the school’s Technology Student Association (TSA), volunteers his time with the Ronald McDonald House Club and plays five musical instruments: piano, drums, trumpet, tuba and bass.
