Guide for Special Education and Related Student Supports

Dear LMSD Families,

We hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to inform you about an important Lower Merion School District publication: Guide for Special Education and Related Student Supports. We want to share our appreciation for the Committee for Special Education’s collaboration and important contributions to this project. This guide aims to provide families with important information about the educational services and supports available within our District for students with learning differences. LMSD is committed to offering a wide range of specialized services to ensure that every student can thrive academically and socially.

We provide several key services for students with diverse needs, including Learning Support, Emotional Support, Autistic Support and Life Skills Support. Additionally, eligible students may receive speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, hearing support, vision therapy and transition services tailored to their educational requirements. We are also proud to offer a variety of supplementary aids and services to further support students' educational needs. These include communication devices, audio versions of books, assistive technology, a braille production center and pre-vocational opportunities, among others.

It is important to note that the continuum of programs and services for children with disabilities is continuously adapted to meet the evolving needs of our community. Our goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can reach their full potential.

For students who qualify, our District also offers specialized instruction through Gifted Education programs, ensuring that all students, regardless of their learning profile, have access to appropriate educational opportunities.

We encourage you to explore the guidebook to gain a deeper understanding of how these resources can benefit your child. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. We look forward to supporting your family throughout their educational journey at Lower Merion School District.

In partnership with the Committee for Special Education, please join members of the District’s Student Services and Special Education team for a two-part, virtual presentation series highlighting information from the newly released Guide for Special Education and Related Student Supports.

The first virtual presentation on 1/23/25 between 7 and 8:30 PM will overview general student services information in the guide, and the second virtual presentation on 2/5/25 between 7 and 8:30 PM will overview general special education information.
