Members of the Harriton High School robotics program recently traveled to Marple Newtown to participate in the Delaware County Christian School’s 2023 VEX Robotics "Spin Up" Challenge where they went head-to-head against 33 other teams from throughout the Greater Philadelphia area during a day of engineering, coding and competition.

While all four Rams’ teams registered respectable records by tournament’s end, it was Harriton’s Team 197D (Daedalus) that ultimately came out on top after delivering a series of spectacular performances throughout the day. This is the second tournament championship for Daedalus this season.

Daedalus was also presented with the Excellence Award - the tournament’s final and most prestigious accolade - which is presented by a panel of trained judges to a team with the following attributes:

• Team displays special attributes, exemplary effort and perseverance
• Team overcomes an obstacle or challenge and achieves a goal or special accomplishment
• Team interview demonstrates effective communication skills, teamwork, professionalism and a student-centered ethos
• Be at or near the top of all Engineering Notebook Rubric rankings
• Be ranked in the top-10 or top 30% of teams (whichever is greater) at the conclusion of qualifying matches
• Be ranked in the top-5 or top 20% of teams (whichever is greater) at the conclusion of the Robot Skills Challenges if Robot Skills Challenges are offered at the event
• Be a candidate in consideration for other juried awards
• Demonstrate a student-centered ethos
• Exhibit positive team conduct, good sportsmanship and professionalism
