A Letter from Our Transportation Department

Dear LMSD Families,

As you know, we are beginning this school year with new start times across the District. These new schedules allow less time between each of our three bus-run tiers – middle schools, high schools and then elementary schools – than in the past. As a result, we have designed new routes and drivers will be encountering new traffic patterns at different times. We also have hired many new school-bus drivers, who may not be as familiar with our community’s roads and possible detours.

For all of these reasons, on behalf of everyone on our LMSD Transportation team, I am asking for your patience during the first month or so of school. Buses may run late or be more crowded than expected. Every year, during the first few weeks of school, we adjust routes and stops as students and drivers settle into new routines. This year, we anticipate even more adjustments will be necessary, as it is not only our LMSD drivers, but also drivers who commute past our schools, who will be experiencing the new school hours for the first time.

Bus Information:

If you live outside a walk zone, you can find your student’s bus information in PowerSchool. Please ensure that students are at their bus stops at least five minutes before their bus is scheduled to arrive and review with them the bus information here.

Changes to Bus Information:

Please check PowerSchool each day once the school year begins to see if any route adjustments have been made. If a change is more than five minutes, it will be reflected in PowerSchool and you will also receive an email from the Transportation Department’s Transfinder system (sender email: noreply@transfinder.com ).

Concerns:

If you have a concern regarding your student’s transportation that you feel requires the attention of the Transportation Department, please fill out and submit the Transportation Information Request Form.

Again, please be patient in awaiting a reply. Our top priority is safely transporting approximately 9000 students to more than 130 locations each day, so sometimes we are unable to immediately answer all requests. We will get back to you as soon as we can.  Thank you in advance for your understanding. We look forward to welcoming your students to the 2024-2025 school year.

Sincerely,

Uldis Vilcins
Supervisor of Transportation
