Dear Gladwyne Families,
Earlier this week, as students returned to our school and the heat and humidity soared, we began to find areas of wet carpeting in the office and some classrooms of our school. The carpeting was removed and the areas dried. Out of an abundance of caution, the District brought in a contractor to test the air quality in the affected areas.
This evening, we received the test results. With the exception of two classrooms, the air quality was deemed acceptable. The two affected classrooms were Room 112 and Room 118. In both rooms, slightly elevated levels of Penicillium/Aspergillus types were detected.
In Room 112, the level was 300 fs/m3. In Room 118, the level was 720 fs/m3. These fungi occur naturally outside. The current level of Penicillium/Aspergillus types in the air outside is 290 fs/m3. Outside levels of 800 are considered "high."
Remediation efforts are already underway in Rooms 112 and 118. The classrooms will remain closed and students and teachers will move to other spaces in the school until further test results indicate the air is clear. With the four-day weekend ahead, we fully anticipate the remediation will be complete before school re-opens on Wednesday.
If you have any questions about the testing, please call the Facilities Office at 610-645-1980. If you have any health-related questions, please call the Office of School Health and Student Safety at 610-645-1829.
