Thanks to the generosity of the Gladwyne Home & School Association, fourth graders experienced a Farm Explorer Extravaganza on April 13, 2023. As an added bonus, their farming lessons will have a delicious and nutritious payoff in the weeks to come.

Greener Partners brought their mobile farm to the school, enabling the GES Class of 2023 take part in hands-on lessons about urban farming. The students learned about growing, preparing, and eating fresh fruits and vegetables, as they dug around in the soil, smelled herbs and tasted different plants,

Over the next few weeks, the students will be growing spinach in their classrooms, which they'll use to create smoothies, following a recipe they received during the lesson.

While the students were honing their green-thumb skills, the HSA parents and guardians were busy prepping raised flower beds and containers. While the spinach is growing inside, these will be filled with perennial plants to beatify the campus outside.
