Transportation

The Lower Merion School District Transportation Department provides bus services for both the District and local private schools. Each day during the school year, LMSD buses transport more than 9,000 students to 136 school locations in the Delaware Valley.
The District's fleet of 135 vehicles includes 64 buses fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG), the largest fleet of alternative fuel school buses on the East Coast. The District has been honored by the U.S. Department of Energy as "Pennsylvania's primary success story for alternative fuels," and is the only District to serve on the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Group.
The District also tries to minimize its environmental impact by using bio-diesel in its diesel fueled vehicles.
LMSD buses are monitored by a Global Positioning System (GPS) to help ensure an efficient, safe and secure transportation system. Our GPS equipped buses enable the District to track the location, direction and speed of our vehicles.
Our overriding goal is to transport our students safely to and from school every day.
National School Bus Safety Week
National School Bus Safety Week (Oct. 20-24) is the time for all District stakeholders to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety! LMSD Transportation created this helpful video to make sure our students and drivers are experts when it comes to this important topic!
School Bus Information on PowerSchool
Lower Merion School District disseminates bus transportation information for public school students via the PowerSchool Parent Portal starting in late August. It is important to check the bus information multiple times at the beginning of the school year as routes and times due change. More information is available here.
Students with parking passes may not ride LMSD buses to or from school. Buses have been routed and stops assigned so that only students who are eligible for transportation (and do not have parking passes) may be safely transported.
- Students who have parking passes may ride LMSD buses for extracurricular activities and field trips.
Students who have parking passes but would like to return to riding LMSD buses to and from school must
- Surrender their parking pass
- Notify the Transportation Department (by emailing transportation@lmsd.org or calling 610-645-1940.
Please allow up to five business days to be assigned to a bus.
StopFinder App
Beginning in the summer of 2025, LMSD's Transportation Department will be using a new app called Stopfinder. Stopfinder is an all-in-one app where you will be able to:
- See your student's bus schedule.
- Receive push notifications about bus delays or substitutions.
- Create customized GeoAlerts to track when your student's bus is approaching and/or departing their bus stop or school.
- Track multiple students' bus schedules, if your students ride different buses.
- Access bus information in multiple languages.
Important StopFinder Details:
- Only designated contacts listed in PowerSchool will have access to student transportation schedules in StopFinder.
- Once subscribed, these primary contacts can share schedule access with additional caregivers (sub-subscribers).
Parents/guardians will receive a Stopfinder invitation, with instructions and a setup link, prior to the start of the school year.
