Reopening FAQs
Updated: Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020: All LMSD students are starting the year in remote instruction. Please note that due to the evolving nature of research, guidance and community input, the information provided in these FAQs is subject to change. The health and safety of students and staff remain the District’s top priority as we endeavor to provide the best educational options for our entire student body.
- HOW AND WHEN WILL LMSD STUDENTS RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION?
- What metrics will the District use decide when in-person instruction will begin?
- If the District goes to the hybrid model, will siblings be able to be in school or at home on the same day?
- Will families be able to pick which cohort their children are in?
- How will the kindergarten schedule work in the hybrid model?
- How will the hybrid model schedule work for grades 1-5?
- How will the hybrid model schedule work for middle school (grades 6-8)?
- How will the hybrid model schedule work for high school (grades 9-12)?
- What will instruction look like when students are at home?
- What is the difference between LMVA and LMSD@Home?
- If students opt for LMVA or LMSD@Home, will they retain their positions in their home schools or could they be partner-schooled upon their return?
- If our children start the year in-person, can we move them into LMSD@Home if we feel it will be better for the at some point during the school year?
- Can the District install cameras in classrooms, so that students who are at home can watch livestreams from their classrooms/teachers?
- Will childcare be provided on days when children are in not school?
- How will social distancing be maintained on buses?
- Will the District work with the Township to have the parking restrictions eased around the high schools, so fewer high school students will have to ride buses?
- Can students ride bicycles to school?
- Could two high school students share a parking space in a hybrid scenario?
- What time will schools open for parents to drop children off if they drive them rather than having them take a bus?
- Will after-school clubs and/or sports be offered by outside organizations or by teachers?
- What is happening with fall sports?
- Is the USciences dual-enrollment program being offered for the upcoming school year and, if so, how will it work if we are in remote instruction?
- Will the District test students and staff for COVID-19?
- What will the expectations be for parents/guardians to check children for symptoms prior to sending them to school?
- Will there be temperature checks when students arrive at school?
- What will happen to students who display symptoms? Where will they go until their parent/guardian picks them up?
- If a student tests positive for COVID-19, who will have to stay home – the class, the school, the District?
- Will students have to stay home if a family member has been exposed or traveled to a “hot zone”?
- How can parents/guardians help children prepare for the return to school?
- Will staff wear masks all day?
- Will all children have to wear masks all day?
- What will happen to children who refuse to wear masks?
- What accommodations will be made for children who have difficulty wearing masks and/or for children who have trouble understanding/communicating with staff in masks?
- What provisions will be made for eating lunch?
- Will there be partitions on dining tables in lunchrooms?
- Will there be partitions between desks in classrooms?
- How will specials work – will teachers move to different classrooms?
- How will social distancing be maintained during class transitions, particularly in middle and high school?
- How will hand-washing occur?
- What cleaning products will be used in schools and how often will cleaning occur?
- What changes are being made to ensure good air quality in the buildings?
- Has the District looked into buying or renting tents to expand instructional space?
