Hundreds of fourth- and fifth-grade students from throughout the area recently gathered at Lower Merion High School to participate in the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s (MCIU) Reading Olympics!
The Reading Olympics is an annual academic competition in which participating students are tasked with reading a pre-selected list of books before convening to compete against other teams in answering questions based on those books. The program aims to promote critical thinking and teamwork while broadening students’ education, vocabulary, literacy skills and reading genres. The team with the most correct answers and highest points earned is the winner!
The teams from each school were guided by teacher-coaches who have been working with their students throughout the year in preparation for the event by reviewing characters, themes, plots, settings and more to ensure their kids were as prepared as possible! Representing LMSD at this year’s event were squads from Belmont Hills, Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Merion, Penn Valley and Penn Wynne, as well a team of fifth graders from Black Rock Middle School!
Congratulations to all of this year's participating students on a tremendous showing! Be sure to click through the slideshow below to see how much fun the students had during the event!
