Among the longest-running traditions in Lower Merion School District is the Junior Olympics, which has been a part of the elementary physical education curriculum for more than six decades. Each spring, fourth-graders at all six elementary schools work through a track & field unit in their gym classes. After completing the unit, students from Belmont Hills, Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Merion, Penn Valley and Penn Wynne gather at Lower Merion High School’s Arnold Field for a fun-filled and competitive culminating affair as they compete for ribbons and school pride in events such as the High Jump, Long Jump, 60 Yard Dash, the 4x100 Relay, Distance Run, Softball Throw and Tug-of-War!
