One of the longest-running traditions in Lower Merion School District is the Junior Olympics, which has been a part of the elementary physical education curriculum for more than six decades. Each spring, fourth graders at all six elementary schools participate in a track & field unit in their gym classes. After completing the unit, students from Belmont Hills, Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Merion, Penn Valley and Penn Wynne gather at Lower Merion High School’s Arnold Field for a fun-filled culminating affair as they compete for ribbons and school pride in events such as the High Jump, Long Jump, 60-Yard Dash, 4x100 Relay, Distance Run, Softball Throw and Tug-of-War!
