Just hours before the Phillies were to take on the Diamondbacks in Game Three of the NLCS, Cynwyd students had a Phillies pep rally, with an embedded theme of PBIS.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. PBIS is a set of ideas and tools used in schools to improve students' behavior. At Cynwyd, students can earn "Cynwyd Cash" when staff find them acting in ways that exemplify the school expectations of Being Safe, Respectful, Responsible and Kind.
Students can exchange their Cynwyd Cast for fun opportunities, like shopping in "Owlbert's Emporium" (the school store), class parties and the chance to participate in school assemblies, like today's pep rally.
Many students and staff sported their Phillies gear for the pep rally, which began with a rousing singalong to "Dancing on My Own." Selected students from each K-2 class then participated in a competition to see who could build a red-cup pyramid the quickest. Then, students from each third and fourth grade class competed to see who could wrap their classmate up as a toilet-paper mummy the quickest.
Even staff got into the fun and games, taking part in a donut-eating competition, where they tried to eat a donut hung on a string by a colleague. PE teacher Mr. Yocum was named the champ, taking home a unique trophy.
The entire event was MC'ed by assistant principal Mr. Papageorge. And while Mr. Ross was nowhere to be seen, Owlbert the mascot was not only present, but also seen chatting with superintendent Dr. Yanni. Funny how Owlbert and Mr. Ross have a very similar build...
