Community members gathered at the Cynwyd Club on Friday night, February 23, 2024, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund (LMTSF).
LMTSF was founded in 1964 by community members who understood that some promising Lower Merion School District graduates did not have the financial means to pursue their educations after high school. Since that first year, when 11 needs-based scholarships were awarded, the Fund has provided up to 140 scholarships a year and given away more than $4.5 million to Lower Merion and Harriton graduates with financial need.
The 60th anniversary "Bash" was a fun-filled fundraiser, featuring food and drinks, a silent auction, a raffle of student-created artworks and jewelry, and a performance by Aces Harmony, the Lower Merion High School A Cappella group. There was also a "Feed the Fund" appeal during which attendees pledged additional donations.
A special scholarship was established to honor and surprise Becky Bowlby, who served as Lower Merion High School's college access counselor for many years, as well as serving on the Fund's Board. LMTSF Board member Lisa Fair, a Lower Merion graduate who went on serve on the Lower Merion Board of School Directors for many years, shared her personal reflections on how her LMTSF scholarship assisted her in achieving her college dreams.
LMTSF is solely funded by donations. If you'd like to contribute, please click here. You can also click through the slide show to see photos from the 60th Anniversary Bash.
