Dr. Mumin Welcomes You to the 2022-2023 School Year

Dear LMSD Families,

I hope you enjoyed a restful summer and I'm pleased to welcome you for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Our staff are all looking forward to welcoming students back to school beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022.

This year will be an exciting one for our District. Not only will our students embark on a journey of making new friends, acquiring new knowledge and meeting new challenges, we will be opening our 11th school, Black Rock Middle School; implementing our reimagined K-4/5-8 curriculum; and welcoming staff and administrators, some who are new to our District and others who are familiar faces taking on new roles.

This also marks my first opportunity to begin a school year in Lower Merion. Since I joined the District last October, I have learned so much about the enthusiastic learners, inspiring educators and staff, and committed community members who contribute to LMSD's stellar reputation and ongoing success.

As noted in my recent letter regarding the District's Health and Safety Plan, masks and social distancing are not being required as we begin our new school year. Recommendations from public health authorities may change over the course of the year, but I am excited that our students are able to return to more "normalcy," see each other's faces and participate in activities that they may have missed in recent years.

In the coming months, we will be working on refreshing and updating our Strategic Plan, All Forward, and incorporating Policy 101: Equity into all we do, supporting our ongoing work in ensuring Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging for all students and staff. Our administrators have also worked on new Student Handbooks, that will available on the District website and will clearly and consistently provide information about our schools' expectations and procedures.

As a final note, please remember to visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal to ensure that your contact information is up-to-date and also review the important Annual Notifications for parents and guardians on our website www.lmsd.org. Any family that would like paper copies of school and/or District communications can request them through the main office at their child's school.

I'm looking forward to partnering with you and our staff in the coming months to encourage our students toward infinite possibilities of success!

Sincerely,

Khalid N. Mumin, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
