Latin students from all three Lower Merion middle schools gathered at Welsh Valley for a fun-filled birthday celebration for Rome.
More than 90 sixth through eighth graders from Welsh Valley, Bala Cynwyd and Black Rock middle schools joined in the after-school celebration that included Olympic-themed activities such as foot races, pool-noodle javelin throws and shot put with rubber chickens.
The students also took part in a Latin "Kahoot!" competition, impromptu art and Certamen (team trivia). And they enjoyed pizza, pretzels and a birthday cake with icing that read, "Felix Dies Natalis Tibi Roma!" (Happy Birthday to You, Rome!)
LMSD middle and high school students are offered daily world language instruction, including; Japanese 1H and 2H and Latin, along with French and Spanish from Level 1 through AP and post-AP-level classes.
Fourth graders recently took part in a World Language Festival to help them decide which language they will choose as they embark on their world language journey.
