Letter to Elementary Families Regarding Flexible Instruction
Letter to Elementary Families Regarding Flexible Instruction

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your continued partnership and patience as we all adapt to this changing landscape.

Beginning Monday, teachers will be using Blackboard to deliver asynchronous instruction, focusing on essential core skills that support grade level mastery and provide foundations for future learning. Throughout the week, they will begin to offer synchronous opportunities through morning meetings and small-group check ins. Should the closure extend beyond Spring Break, we will build on these newly established routines and provide more small-group interactions. Teachers will also be restructuring their office hours to increase availability to students and families both online and via email. The goal will be to communicate essential skills and activities, so families can have the much-needed flexibility to help students prioritize their time. During this time, students will receive opportunities to engage, both synchronously and asynchronously, with their special area teachers through participation in Art, PE, Music, Library and FLES.

Teachers will communicate specific assignment expectations through Blackboard, which will be the K-12 platform for communication with parents. Teachers will send information about accessing their Blackboard sites. Additional information can be found on the District website. You will receive additional guidance on other elements of LMSD K-12 Flexible Instruction that may answer many other questions you may have. Teachers will continue to design to give families maximum flexibility as well as give students maximum opportunity to engage in learning.

Our Technology Support Educators are available to assist with access information for these online learning tools. Email techsupport@lmsd.org or call the Lower Merion School District helpdesk at 610-645-1899. If you are looking for other opportunities for your child(ren) during this time, you can also access the District website for links to a variety of resources.

We look forward to students having a chance to engage with their teachers through video-conferences. The recording or photographing of video-conference sessions is strictly prohibited. As you know, in PA, it is illegal to record someone without consent. This shared family commitment protects all our children and ensures parents are comfortable having their children participate. Thank you for ensuring that both staff, students, and parents feel comfortable with having children continue learning in a safe virtual environment.

Sincerely,

The Elementary Leadership Team
