BCMS Counseling Program - School Counseling Program of Distinction

The Bala Cynwyd Middle School's Counseling Program is a RAMP Award winner, the nation's highest honor for exemplary commitment to comprehensive school counseling programs. The RAMP (Recognized American School Counselor Model Program) Award, an honor bestowed by the American School Counselor Association, is the equivalent of a "Blue Ribbon School" award for a school counseling program. BCMS is one of two schools in Pennsylvania and among 60 schools nationwide to win the award.

The Counseling Department at Bala Cynwyd is composed of caring, enthusiastic staff who are dedicated to leading our students down the right path. From the time children step through the entrance on their first day as a 5th grader until the time they walk through the doors after 8th grade promotion, the Counseling Department is there to help make the difficult transitions as smooth and enjoyable as possible. There is a shared passion of seeing students succeed and lead healthy lives, but most importantly in making sure that children grow as people and thinkers.

The BCMS Counseling Department has been at the forefront of many district and building-based initiatives including Second Step, Rally, Naviance, START, the BCMS Diversity Garden, and many others. They have experienced recent success with bringing Love and Logic TM to Lower Merion School District. The school counselors have been running Love and Logic Parenting Classes for the last several years. As a result of those efforts, other schools have followed suit and are now offering similar classes. The BCMS Counseling Department had the first and the longest standing school counseling advisory council in the district.
