Lower Merion School District’s middle school girls’ & boys’ squash teams both recently finished in tenth place at the 2023 U.S. Middle School Team Squash Championships – two and four spots higher, respectively, than their initial seedings. The event was held at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia.
The LM girls entered the tournament seeded 12th out of 23 teams and swept past #25 Baldwin B (5-0), #13 Agnes Irwin B (4-1) and #20 William Penn Charter A (5-0), before falling in the Division 2 finals to the #11 Baldwin A team. Of note, Bala Cynwyd seventh grader Josephine Davis went undefeated on the weekend!
The LM boys came in to the competition seeded 14th in a field of 44 teams. A first-round loss to third-ranked Indian Mountain A (0-5) sent the squad to the Division 1 consolation bracket where they defeated #11 Episcopal Academy A (4-1) and #10 Germantown Friends A (4-1), before falling to #9 Shipley A (4-1).
The competing LM girls, led by Coach Gina Stoker, were Linden Muhly (BC-7th), Josephine Davis (BC-7th), Nina Abdullah (BR-7th), Ceci Roberts (BC-8th) Annie Nagy (BC-6th), Hannah Greenstein (BC-8th) and Pippa Mastaglio (BC-8th).
