An array of after-school and co-curricular activities enable Bala Cynwyd students to further engage and explore their passions. Opportunities include theatre productions, musical ensembles, subject-area clubs, athletic and academic teams, service organizations, among many other offerings. School staff foster a culture of co-curricular participation by serving as active sponsors, coaches and mentors.
Opened in 1939, BCMS enjoys a long history of service to the community and a legion of proud and loyal alumni. Many current students are part of third and fourth generation school families. The school, a beautiful brick building that has been modernized for 21st century education, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
BCMS serves approximately 900 students from the communities of Bala Cynwyd, Merion, Penn Wynne, Wynnewood and portions of Ardmore, Narberth and Penn Valley. Based on the general enrollment boundaries of the District, Bala Cynwyd students traditionally continue their secondary education at Lower Merion High School. Students from Cynwyd and Merion elementary schools generally attend Bala Cynwyd for middle school.
Bala Cynwyd has twice been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
