Lower Merion's '96 State Championship Basketball Team Inducted into Hall of Fame

Lower Merion High School’s 1996 boys’ basketball team, which won the program’s first state title in more than five decades with Kobe Bryant leading the way, was recently honored in a special ceremony during the 15th Annual Kobe Bryant Play-by-Play Classic at LMHS.

Ahead of the evening’s Lower Merion-Methacton game, players and coaches from the legendary ’96 Aces’ squad convened at halfcourt as the team was officially inducted into the Lower Merion Basketball Hall of Fame. Head Coach Gregg Downer shared a few remarks and memories about Bryant, his teammates and that unforgettable season.

The Aces then topped a tough Methacton team by a 75-70 tally in front of a raucous crowd in Lower Merion’s Bryant Gymnasium. To read coverage of the event on the Main Line Times & Suburban website, click here.
