Happy belated birthday to Lower Merion High School alumna and Montgomery County’s oldest resident, Mrs. Caroline Merrill, who recently celebrated turning 109-years-old!
Born in 1914, the year World War I began, Mrs. Merrill later graduated from LMHS in 1934, before becoming a nurse and matriarch. When asked about her secret to longevity, her answer was simple: love. “Love life…love one another. Be kind to people.” Wise words, indeed!
A decade ago, in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Moment of Integration, Mrs. Merrill sat down for an interview to discuss what going to school in Lower Merion was like in the 1930's in the middle of the Great Depression. Again, the happiest of birthday wishes to Mrs. Merrill, and here’s to many more!
