We are deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of Lower Merion High School alumna Caroline Merrill, who died at the remarkable age of 110.

Born in 1914—the year World War I began—Mrs. Merrill graduated from LMHS in 1934 before going on to become a nurse and mother. When asked about her secret to longevity, she credited healthy eating, regular exercise and a deep-rooted faith, as well as one simple but profound notion she lived by: treating others with love and kindness.

“Love life…love one another,” she said. “Be kind to people.”
