Beck Dorey-Stein (LM ’04) Publishes Third Novel, Named Reese Witherspoon’s July Book Club Pick

Beck Dorey-Stein, a 2004 graduate of Lower Merion High School, recently published her third book—Spectacular Things—and it was Reese Witherspoon's July 2025 Book Club pick!

The novel tells the story of two sisters, Mia and Cricket, growing up in a small Maine town defined by its soccer tradition. Daughters of a young single mother, they’re bound by love but pulled apart by sacrifice as Mia steps into the role of caregiver while Cricket pursues her dream of athletic stardom. Their journey explores ambition, loyalty and the costs of family devotion.

Upon its release on July 1, 2025, Reese Witherspoon chose Spectacular Things as her monthly pick, praising its powerful themes: “Sisters. Soccer. Mia and Cricket… It’s about making big sacrifices for your family. It’s a beautiful read.” Reese’s Book Club—founded in 2017 through her Hello Sunshine media company—spotlights women’s stories and has become a launchpad for bestsellers and screen adaptations.
