Women's History Month

Women's History Month Banner featuring the women in the list below

Women's History Month is an annual celebration in March that honors the contributions, achievements and impact of women throughout history. Originating from Women’s History Week in the United States in the late 1970s, it was officially expanded to a month-long observance in 1987. The month serves as a time to recognize women’s advancements in fields such as politics, science, literature, activism and education, as well as to highlight the ongoing struggles for gender equality.

Each year, Women's History Month is centered around a specific theme that reflects the progress and challenges women face. It is a global opportunity to amplify women's voices, celebrate their resilience and inspire future generations to continue breaking barriers. This year's theme is Moving Forward Together!

Below are brief biographical descriptions of the women featured in the banner image above. From top to bottom, left to right, these women are Maya Angelou, Gloria Steinem, Dolores Huerta, Maria Montessori, Wangari Maathai, Shirley Chisholm, Malala Yousafzai, Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Obama, Grace Hopper, Katherine Johnson and Jane Addams.
