SMART Program Registration
Your child is invited to participate in the SMART Literacy Program offered by the Lower Merion School District. The purpose of the SMART Program is to provide literacy learning that will ease the academic transition into high school for rising 9th grade students into College Preparatory- or Honors-level courses.
The SMART Literacy Program is designed to help students navigate their summer reading assignment, develop strategies for successfully studying 9th grade Social Studies and Science, and acquire skills for close reading of text in all subjects. Participating students will be taught by a middle/high school team of Lower Merion School District faculty. Each 3-hour SMART session will include a number of activities to assure that students are engaged meaningfully with their learning. Students who register prior to May 15th will be provided a copy of this year’s 9th Grade English summer reading book that they can annotate. During the program, students will have access to select sections from the 9th grade Biology textbook and well as the 9th grade Social Studies textbook, both of which are challenging texts. It is extremely important that students register and attend all five days in order to increase their chances for success.
