One to One
The district’s one-to-one laptop program, which began at the high school level in 2007, was expanded to the middle level after the COVID-19 pandemic. Following a comprehensive orientation process that emphasizes digital citizenship and the appropriate and effective use of technology, all 5th grade students are issued a Chromebook that they will maintain for three years. All 8th grade students are issued a MacBook that they will use until they complete high school.
The one-to-one program enables students to easily transition projects and research between home and school. Students enjoy 24/7 access to the educational software and sites that they use in school, allowing them to more easily exchange ideas and remain connected with classmates and teachers. The result is a learning environment in which problem-solving, critical thinking and leadership skills are developed and enhanced through the responsible use of technology and continuous access to digital resources. LMSD works to safeguard students’ online safety by employing robust filtering technology to block access to inappropriate sites.
