Green LMSD
Lower Merion School District is deeply committed to supporting sustainability in our school community. From LEED-certified buildings to K-12 environmental education programs, an award-winning green cleaning program to the nation's largest fleet of school buses fueled by compressed natural gas, we strive to be a model for responsible environmental stewardship. For these efforts, LMSD was among only 14 nationwide honorees for the first-ever U.S. Department of Education (USDE) Green Ribbon Schools District Sustainability Award. Honored districts were selected for their exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including civics, STEM and green career pathways.
The District also maintains an Energy and Resource Conservation Program. Managed by the District's Operations Department, this program proactively reduces utility consumption, waste and carbon emissions.
