Students from Welsh Valley Middle School's eighth grade art classes recently boarded a bus for a fun-filled and educational trip to the Philadelphia Art Museum as an extension of their curricular studies. As a primer prior to their visit, students explored the world of surrealist modern art under the guidance of Welsh Valley art teacher Jackie Cassidy.
During their excursion, students were led in small groups on a guided tour of Modern and Contemporary Art facilitated by Philadelphia Museum of Art educators Pablo Cerdera and Jean French. The tours not only provided students with an up close and personal look at an array of modern art works, but also included lively discussions and thoughtful learning about what modern art is and why artists chose to express themselves in certain modalities.
Following the visit, students will continue to expand their knowledge by creating a work of art inspired by a piece from the museum's collection. And finally, before heading back to Welsh Valley, the Dragons wanted to take a moment to show their Philadelphia Eagles pride as they posed for a picture on the iconic Art Museum steps. Go Eagles! Go Dragons!
