Penn Wynne Students Hold Fundraising Walkathon
Penn Wynne Students Hold Fundraising Walkathon

Students from Penn Wynne Elementary School raised more than $11,000 for the Providence Center of Philadelphia during the 2022 Jimmy Sullivan Memorial Walkathon.

Jimmy Sullivan was a Penn Wynne student who passed away in 1990, between first and second grades. Each May since his passing, the school has held a walkathon in his memory.

Penn Wynne students and staff walked laps around the school building during their physical education classes and secured donations for each lap walked.

The Providence Center has provided educational programming in Philadelphia's Fairhill neighborhood since 1993, helping families embrace futures filled with hope and opportunity.

The Center's Executive Director, Siria Rivera; along with Jimmy's father, Stephen Sullivan; Jimmy's sister, Colleen Sullivan Gerlach; and Charles Gerlach accepted the check, which was presented by two Penn Wynne fifth graders, as first and second graders looked on.

Great job by Penn Wynne students, embracing Spirit of Community Pathway of LMSD's Strategic Plan, All Forward!
