At the August 16, 2021, meeting of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors, Supt. Copeland recommended and the Board approved the appointment of Dr. Amy Jenkins to become principal of the Bala Cynwyd Middle School. Dr. Jenkins succeeds Sarah Stout, who was named principal for the new middle school earlier this summer.
Dr. Jenkins has served as an Assistant Principal and Supervisor of Online Learning for the Unionville Chadds-Ford School District since 2015. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Principal and Dean of Academics and Academic Development in the Penn Delco School District, where she had also served as an Instructional Technology Coach and where she began her educational career as a 6th grade Language Arts teacher.
Dr. Jenkins received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from West Chester University, her Master of Education degree from Penn State, her Administrative Certification from Cabrini College and her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from West Chester.
"I am excited to join Lower Merion School District and the Bala Cynwyd Middle School family." Dr. Jenkins said. "I look forward to continuing the work Ms. Stout and her administrative team have started. I can't wait to meet everyone in person!"
Dr. Jenkins and her husband, Joe, have two children. Their daughter is starting her freshman year at Duquesne University and their son is an eighth grader at Garnet Valley Middle School. She enjoys spending time at the beach, boating and cheering on Philadelphia sports teams.
Supt. Copeland said, "I am confident that Dr. Jenkins, along with Assistant Principals Jeffrey Hunter and Christine Fleming-Hirshka, will provide excellent leadership to the BCMS community, not only for this year, but for the years ahead, as we transition fifth graders into middle school and re-envision our middle school curriculum and physical spaces to reflect the loftiest goals of our Strategic Plan, All Forward."
