Ten talented students recently took center stage at Lower Merion High School as they vied for the coveted title of "The Amazing Ace" during the eleventh annual installment of this fun-filled school-wide fundraiser. This year's event ultimately raised more than $15,000 for a variety of important causes including the Colon Cancer Coalition, Alzheimer's Association, Philadelphia Children's Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Paws & Affection, Bobby Bonds Memorial Foundation, Musicopia, PAWS, Immune Deficiency Foundation and Alex's Lemonade Stand.
This year's contestants – seniors Aidan Barr Bono, Asher Goodwin, Justin McQueen, Joe Plavin, Maddie Pyankov, Ursula Walczak, Sydney Schur and Roi Zarom along with juniors Mats Egberts and Maximus Forster - participated in a variety of entertaining exhibitions in their efforts to convince the judges and audience of their claim to the crown, including a catwalk, hip-hop dance, Q&A session, talent portion, partner dance and more. Further entertainment was provided throughout the evening by Ace Harmony and the LM Dance Team.
At the end of the evening, with the audience votes tallied and judges' scores finalized, it was senior Ursula Walczak who earned the title of "Amazing Ace" as she won over the crowd in her talent portion by incorporating some of the beneficiaries of her fundraising efforts: the cute pups from Paws & Affection. Paws & Affection trains service dogs for children with disabilities and educates people about the important roles these dogs play in the lives of those who need them. Walczak chose to support Paws & Affection after years of volunteering with the organization and seeing first-hand the value of their work with kids-in-need.
