Lower Merion High School students and staff enjoyed themselves and celebrated helping others at the annual Winterfest on the final day of school before the 2019 winter break.
Students and staff gathered in the Kobe Bryant Gymnasium to enjoy pretzels, pastries and beverages. The highlight of the morning was the announcement of the final tally of food the school collected to be donated to Saints Memorial Baptist Church in Bryn Mawr and cash to be donated to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
The students and staff collected 5500 pounds of food and more than $1100. The money was raised by selling raffle tickets for prizes such as prom tickets, use of the Principal Sean Hughes's parking space for a week, tickets to 76ers and Flyers games and more.
Many students and staff members sported festive holiday sweaters and hats. Some chose the event as a time to exchange presents.
Lower Merion Schools will be closed for winter break until January 2, 2020.
