Lower Merion High School senior swimmer Anna Kalendadze recently capped off her career in style as she won a gold medal in the 500-meter freestyle for the fourth consecutive year, along with a silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle at the PIAA Swimming/Diving Championships held at Bucknell University. Kalendadze, who recently signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of California-Berkley, earned All-State and All-American honors in both events based on her blistering times.
Among her myriad accomplishments in the pool, Kalandadze is also a four-time District I champion and set the District I record in the 500 freestyle. She also holds eight swimming records at Lower Merion, including the 500, 200, 100 and 50-meter freestyles; the 100-meter fly; 200 medley relay; and the 200 and 400-meter free relay. Best of luck at the next level!
Also making history at this year's event was the 200-Yard Medley Relay team of Annika Edwards, Allison Stewart, Anna Kalendadze and Ella Harris, who were the first LMHS girls' relay squad to ever compete in the state championships.
Diver Amari Swint-Brown, who finished in 16th place overall in the competition, was also named to the All-State team for outstanding performance.
Congratulations to Coach Byrne and the entire LMHS Girls Swim Team on an excellent season and to those who competed in the PIAA Swimming/Diving Championships!
