LMHS Crew Team Cleans Up Local Park
LMHS Crew Team Cleans Up Local Park

Fifteen members of the Lower Merion High School crew team and their families spent Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, cleaning up debris in Gladwyne's Flat Rock Park. The debris was left behind after recent flooding caused by Hurricane Ida.

The crew team practices rowing next to the park nearly every day, so they consider the park their "home field" and hope that one day a community rowing center can be built at the end of the park.

Parent and volunteer coach Jeffrey Pennington said the student athletes felt lucky to give back to the community and help preserve the resources they enjoy.

The debris they pulled out of the river included lumber, plastic trash, a broken flagpole, tires and a snowboard boot.

LMSD's Strategic Plan, "All Forward," provides a framework for a collective, intentional and positive approach to change. Its five aspirational pathways guide us toward continual innovation and transformation to further educational excellence for every student. The crew team's park cleanup is a student-driven example of Strategic Pathway #5: A Spirit of Community. To learn more about #LMSDAllForward and the Strategic Pathways, click here.
