Dear BCMS Community,
I am pleased to share with you my recommendation to appoint Jeffrey Hunter to serve as interim principal of Bala Cynwyd Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. Mr. Hunter is a veteran administrator, well-respected for his leadership within BCMS and known to many families across the District for his role as principal for the LMSD@Home program during the 2020-2021 school year and serving as an assistant principal at BCMS since 2013.
Mr. Hunter began his educational career as a social studies teacher and served as a principal of grades ranging from K-12 at Math Science and Technology Community Charter School in Philadelphia before joining BCMS. He is a valued member of numerous LMSD Committees, including the School Safety Task Force, Committee to Address Race in Education, Strategic Plan Committee, Achievement Imperative Task Force, and Sleep and School Start Time Committee. Mr. Hunter also served our county as a Marine Corps Reservist.
Mr. Hunter's appointment as interim principal will enable LMSD to conduct a full search and selection process to fill the position on a permanent basis. By accepting the interim role, he will be providing invaluable continuity and guidance to students and staff, as LMSD transitions to our new middle school grade configuration and opens Black Rock Middle School for the upcoming year and into the future.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr. Hunter said, "I look forward to the opportunity to lead and learn with the BCMS community as we transition to a 5-8 middle school."
The Lower Merion Board of School Directors is expected to vote on Mr. Hunter's appointment at its July 18, 2022, Regular Business Board Meeting.
Khalid N. Mumin, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
