Due to operational issues, students at both Harriton and Lower Merion high schools will return to fully virtual instruction from December 14, 2020, through Jan. 8, 2021. The exception will be special education students who have been identified by their IEP teams as requiring in-person instruction. They will remain in-person, with the exception of December 23, 2020, when they will be virtual. All schools are closed for Winter Break from Dec. 24, 2020, through Jan. 1, 2021.
Classes will be held using the remote learning schedule, with a 9:00 a.m. start time and teachers/staff will be expected to work from the buildings. At this time, we anticipate a return to our in-person hybrid instructional model on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021.
In addition to sharing this information, I wanted to let you know that LMSD has been selected, along with the North Penn School District, for a pilot COVID-19 testing program that is being organized by PolicyLab at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We anticipate beginning this testing as soon as next week and expect that all LMSD staff will be able to be tested prior to our planned return to in-person instruction on Jan. 11, 2021. This testing of asymptomatic staff and selected students (with parent/guardian consent) is an important additional tool in mitigating the transmission risk within our school community. Further details about the pilot testing program will be shared in the coming days.
As a reminder, we encourage everyone to continue to follow the health protocols, including mask-wearing, handwashing and maintaining physical distance. Social interactions should be limited to household members to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If anyone in your household experiences symptoms listed in our screening tool, they should stay home and contact a medical provider. If anyone in your household has COVID-19, please call the LMSD Health Services COVID Healthline at 610-645-1973.
