Second and third grade students from Penn Valley Elementary School recently enjoyed a special visit to the Main Line Art Center as they had the opportunity to explore the connections between art, math, science, engineering and poetry.
The students in Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Partridge's second and third grade classes met with Main Line Art Center Education Manager Ariel Edwards, as she guided the young artists through a tour of photography, printmaking, mosaics, metal arts, glass fusion and more. She explained about the technology, mechanics and processes involved in creating both functional and expressive art. Education Director Dan Halprin also introduced students to the Art Center's Members' Exhibition, which highlights and celebrates works of art across all mediums.
During their visit, each student chose a piece of art to study and reflect upon, and as a culminating activity, wrote their very own poems, which included descriptions of and reactions to the artwork they selected. Students also took to the time to write letters to the artists, where they shared their thoughts on the various pieces.
