Cultivating Creativity: LMHS Art Department's "One Artist, One Summer" Challenge

This summer, the Lower Merion High School Art Department has invited students to participate in "One Artist, One Summer 2017" - an initiative challenging students to interpret, change or add to the world around them by doing something artistic each day. This program coincides with the District's summer reading "One Book" selection – Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told you About Being Creative by Austin Kleon – which was chosen by members of the Harriton and Lower Merion High School Art Departments. Both schools will honor the reading of this book in a fall celebration of literacy, invite conversation among students and teachers from various disciplines about the power and potential of the arts, and reference the book's themes related to creativity, which are integral to the District's Strategic Plan.

Each day throughout the summer, one of the LMHS Art Department staff has been posting an image of something they are working on or thinking about on the InsideOut website – an online platform and outlet for LMHS students to both inspire and be inspired by art. The posts may include a prompt, observation, artwork or a "mini-challenge" to help cultivate and inspire student work. Be sure to visit the InsideOut site to check out all of the posts and learn more about this program on the "One Artist, One Summer" page!
