The first grade class at Belmont Hills Elementary School recently capped off Black History Month with a special presentation celebrating the life and works of a number of famous African-American scientists for an enthusiastic audience of classmates, family and friends. Among the influential figures highlighted throughout the presentation were Benjamin Banneker, Elijah McCoy, Dr. Patricia Bath, Katherine Johnson, Dr. Mae Jemison, Madam CJ Walker, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and more.
Students took turns at the microphone as they shared information about these iconic figures regarding their backgrounds, educations, obstacles faced throughout their lives and the contributions each made to their field and the world-at-large. Throughout the presentations, students also performed a medley of songs including the O-I-L Boogie, Travel With Us by Patsy Ford Simms and others.
