BCMS Named "School of Merit" in Mathematics Contest
BCMS Named "School of Merit" in Mathematics Contest

Bala Cynwyd Middle School was named a "School of Merit" for achieving a team score of 50 or better in the Mathematical Association of America's AMC 8 Competition.

During the November 2019 competition, each student completed a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics designed to promote the development of problem-solving skills.

Individual student's scores were ranked nationally and combined for a team total. Close to 95,000 students from 1872 schools took the exam. Several BCMS competitors scored in the Top 1% of competitors, receiving a Distinguished Honor Roll designation. They were:

Gold: 1st Place for the School
Andrew Slattery
Bole Ying

Silver: 2nd Place for the School
Joshua Greenberg

Bronze: 3rd Place for the School
Emily Zhang

Other members of the award-winning team included: Arjay Miller, Lela Miller, Brandon Park, Daniel Vossough and David Zhou.

Board Meeting Location Changed

The regular business meeting of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, will be held in the Lower Merion High School auditorium rather than the Board Room. The meeting will begin at 8:00 p.m.

The meeting will include an update to the Board on the topic of school start times.
