Bala Cynwyd's Erin Fox nominated for Best Buddies' "Champion of the Year"

Bala Cynwyd Middle School seventh grade student Erin Fox has been nominated as a Best Buddies of Philadelphia "Champion of the Year" – a fundraising and awareness campaign that brings together prominent and dynamic individuals who believe in creating opportunities for friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Fox has shared her story and explained why she believes so strongly in the Best Buddies mission on her fundraising page. She writes:

"I am SO honored to be nominated as a Best Buddy Champion! Please join me in my efforts to support Best Buddies! I have been passionate about the Best Buddies mission since elementary school. This year I had the honor of being elected President of Best Buddies at Bala Cynwyd Middle School. I hope to continue my involvement with Best Buddies throughout my life. I have always wanted to become a special education teacher when I grow up. As a Best Buddies Champion nominee, I am competing with other nominees in our area to raise funds and spread awareness of the amazing program that is Best Buddies. This Campaign will run until November 15, 2019 when my family and I will attend the Champions Gala and see who won. If you know me or my family at all, we are super competitive, so a challenge that also raises money for one of my favorite charities is basically a dream come true.

Through Best Buddies, thousands of people with disabilities have successfully moved from segregation and isolation to a new acceptance in their families, schools and communities. In turn, Best Buddies has created a new spirit of public service for thousands of middle school, high school, college and adult volunteers that will last a lifetime. Please help make a difference in the life of a person with a disability! Any donation is appreciated no matter how small! Thank you for supporting me in my efforts to raise money for Best Buddies. Your contribution is greatly appreciated."

At the conclusion of the eight-week campaign, there will be a special recognition ceremony celebrating and honoring all of the accomplishments and efforts of this year's champions. The event will take place on November 15, 2019 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. at the Drexel Brook Special Events Center. To purchase tickets for the event, click here.
