Award-winning author & illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh visits Penn Wynne

Award-winning author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh recently visited Penn Wynne Elementary School to speak with students about his work as a writer and artist, the creative process, and even shared some of his early illustrations as an elementary school student. Throughout the assembly, Tonatiuh also discussed how the illustrations in his books are influenced by Pre-Columbian art and how his stories relate to the Latino experience with subjects that include social justice issues, art, history and immigration.

Tonatiuh's books have received numerous accolades, inlcuding the Pura Belpré Medal, the Sibert Medal, The Tomás Rivera Mexican-American Children's Book Award, The Américas Award, the Jane Addams Children's Book Award and the New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book Award.
