Acclaimed children's author and illustrator David Wiesner recently visited Merion Elementary School for a special assembly with students where he discussed his path to becoming an artist, award-winning publications, the creative process and much more.
Wiesner's books have been translated into more than a dozen languages and he has won numerous awards both nationally and internationally. Three of his publications were selected as winners of the prestigious Caldecott Medal – Tuesday (1992), The Three Pigs (2002), and Flotsam (2007) – recognizing the preceding year's "most distinguished American picture book for children." He is only the second person in the long history of the award to earn the honor three times. Wiesner also received three Caldecott Honors for Free Fall, Sector 7 and Mr. Wuffles!
